ScoMac were employed by the Main Contractor Sharkeys to work with the design team in the development of the staff catering facilities within the QuarterMile premises. On paper the design team had already done a great deal of work in advance of ScoMac’s appointment and with our assistance they managed to realise the look feel and capabilities of the kitchen and servery space.
Key challenges were logistics as although the site was a new development walkways, staircases and mechanical lifting routes were restricted in size. This meant thought had to be given to the means of design, manufacture then breaking down and reassembly as the restaurant is on the fourth floor of the building. This was achieved through good material choices and a skilled workforce to make this seem effortless when looking at the finished counters.
The design team had challenges in services and ventilation restrictions, where the clients brief was for a multi-functional food service offering which could cater for a variety of meal offers, buffets etc.
With careful equipment selection and the integration of ventless Dishwash and pizza cooking we feel this had been achieved and the added benefits of the Turbo Chef Fire unit having a quirky look to it made it all the more appealing to the design team (Fenders head from Futurama).
